about illumni

Kill Two Birds are a Melbourne based 4 piece band consisting of Mike (Vocals, Guitar), Luke (Guitar), Max (Drums) and Regan (Bass), who’s sound is best described as a cocktail of eclectic grunge rock spiked with a pop sedative.

The journey began in the outer suburbs of Melbourne on Saturday afternoons in the garage. Not content with imitating their idols, the band quickly developed their own sound, debuting in backyards and at parties. Happy days they were but the usual obstacles to the garage jam session (babies, police, neighbours on night shift) took their toll and it was time for the band to expand their horizons.

Enter the Melbourne scene where the band has seen their suburban garage rock sound evolve, their dedication and commitment to what has been described as a unique and original sound has not wavered and the band strive towards passionate performance and quality songwriting.

Kill Two Birds influences are many, ranging from 60’s and 70’s rock and blues, early punk and the indie grunge sounds of the 90’s. These influences combine to create a fusion of musical style that has been described as a ‘…catchy rock sound with hints of The Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth and the Buzzcocks to name a few.’

2 EP’s (Best of Vol 1, 2005; Self Titled, 2007) have seen the band establish a passionate and loyal fanbase and also helped them cement a respectful position in the local underground scene, selling out of their limited runs. Reviews have been welcoming of their material and live performances stating that ‘…the band have got something. Great songs and riffs. The crowd were down the front, singing along, punching the air. Yahoo…’ and ‘The music was slickly structured punk/rock/grunge, with nice soloing and strong builds. Professionalism abounded in their transitions from track to track, and they even got the crowd moshing …. Illumni were my pick of the night – they’ll go far…. ‘

Their 2008 campaign has seen them supporting the likes of Cog and spending time in the studio. Following the launch of an upcoming new single ‘Jersey / Blame Game’ , shows are planned in not only Melbourne, but the outer suburbs, Geelong and Ballarat. Road trips up north as well as boat trips down south are also in the pipeline.

Not interested in the sell out, but eager for the yell out, the band is very much focused on building industry relationships and opening up distribution channels to help bring their sound to the masses. With further recording planned and new material being developed, as well as the willingness to further branch out in their live performances, illumni seek like minded parties to help sponsor and support their development.
